Study on Urban Transport Development
Abstarct
Study on Urban Transport Development The combination of rapid urbanization and motorization has been a key cause of numerous transport problems in developing cities in Asia. It has resulted in a deterioration in accessibility, service levels, safety, comfort, operational efficiency, and the urban environment.
While the development models pursued by cities in the past have not necessarily been effective in resolving many of their problems, experience gained within the region—especially in the development and management of urban transport in Japan—is considered to be highly relevant to urban transport issues in Asian cities.
Conclusion
The development objective of the Urban Transport Development Project is to provide the city of Beirut and the Greater Beirut Area (GBA) with the basic institutional framework it now lacks and critical investments needed to maximize the efficiency of the existing urban transport infrastructure. These investments will provide the foundation for future development of an efficient transportation system for the city and its metropolitan area.
