Use of Recycled Aggregates,Waste Plastic Fibres and Flyash in the Production of Bituminous Mix for Flexible Pavements
Abstract
Use Of Recycled Aggregates,Waste Plastic Fibres And Flyash In The Production Of Bituminous Mix For Flexible Pavements Waste plastic and its disposal pose a major threat to the environment, resulting in pollution and global warming. The use of plastic waste in bituminous mixes enhances its properties and also its strength 1. It will also be a solution for plastic disposal & various defects in pavement viz., pot holes, corrugation, ruts, etc. The waste plastic used is polyethylene, polystyrene, polypropylene.
Not only will this strengthen the pavement, but it will also increase its durability. Titanium dioxide is used as a material that absorbs smoke and absorbs smoke from vehicles. This innovative technology will be a boon for the hot-humid Indian climate. It’s economic and eco-friendly.
Due to population growth, urbanization, development activity & lifestyle change, the quantity of plastic waste in municipal solid waste and shortage of natural aggregates is gradually increasing. Since waste plastic and cement concrete materials are non-biodegradable elements, this poses a major challenge to society and the management of these waste materials. These elements of waste materials are now a challenge to dispose of.
So we can replace these waste materials by using low density polythene (LDPE) and old demolish concrete structures as replacements in conventional materials used in pavement construction. The polymer can be formed by a wide range of thermoplastic processing methods and is particularly useful where moisture resistance and low cost are required. Ethylene can be used to copolymerize vinyl acetate. We use GGBS (ground granulated blast furnace slag) for alternative use of cement filler.
Conclusion
The polymer coated on aggregates reduces the absorption of voids and moisture. This results in the reduction of ruts and there is no formation of potholes. The plastic pavement can withstand heavy traffic and is durable than flexible pavement.
Using plastic mix will reduce bitumen content by 10 percent and increase road strength and performance. This new technology is environmentally friendly. Using smoke-absorbent material (titanium dioxide) by 10 percent of the polymer content can reduce vehicle pollution.
